MID-CENTURY MASTERPIECE

A modern-classic residence where sweeping curves, intersect with subtle mid-century influences, and generous spatial volumes come together in a layered composition of texture, tone, colour and form, balancing retro elegance with refined modern.

A Cohesive Language where Bathrooms are Designed in Dialogue with the Home

Interior Designers, Leigh-Anne of Vaniti House & Kristin of Moment Architecture & Interiors, working in close collaboration with their vivacious and energetic client have carefully and tastefully curated the fusion of elements that give form to this vibrant residence.

Marble, warm metallic accents, and layered surface finishes carry through from adjoining rooms, creating a sense of continuity throughout this art filled home. Carefully selected and imported statement lighting, placed throughout the home, read as a series of sculptural artworks anchoring each space.

Victorian Bathrooms’ fittings and sanitaryware are integrated with precision, allowing every element to feel embedded more than applied. The result is a series of spaces that read as part of a cohesive whole, where bathing, movement, and daily rituals are fully aligned with the architecture of the home.

A Layering Of Colour, Texture, And Subtle Nostalgia

Surface treatments move beyond neutrality into something more layered and expressive, inspired by a client unafraid to push beyond the expected.

Surfaces shift between softly honed marble and glossier, more reflective finishes, creating contrast through texture and colour. Each selection is meticulously considered, with creams, softer salmon hues, taupe and deeper, green tones, all working together in harmony.

In the master bathroom, this approach is most pronounced. Marble slabs inlaid with green glass mosaics forming a softly curved statement border, echoed by the sculptural form of the Oslo bath, while the Britannia bath mixer introduces a refined, classical counterpoint.

Defined green glass mosaic inlays anchor the composition, allowing the curved edges of the double vanity to soften the room, while botanical motifs introduce a subtle decorative note. They bring femininity and a sense of nostalgia, balancing the solidity of marble with moments of softness.

Vanity Areas

At each vanity, every detail from the stone fascias to the bespoke joinery, alongside the hands-on sourcing by both the interior designers and the client reflects a deeply individual approach to each interior. Basins sit within marble surfaces that echo the wider palette, maintaining continuity between the washing and bathing areas.

Tapware from the Britannia Collection, finished in polished nickel, provides a unifying detail across each space. Its classic profile aligns with the project’s nostalgic influence. Used across basins, baths, and showers, it reinforces a clear sense of cohesion.

Mirrors and lighting are handled with similar subtlety. Softly framed forms and concealed illumination introduce a diffused glow, allowing shadow to settle across the surface. The effect is immersive and atmospheric, supporting the overall composition rather than drawing focus.

The Designer’s Approach - Setting the Tone

At the heart of the design approach was the use of rich, patterned ceramics for the vanities; vibrant surfaces that immediately draw the eye and set the tone for each bathroom. These bold vanities act as a contemporary counterpoint to more traditional fixtures like basins and sanitary ware.

To soften the visual transitions between old and new, warm wooden flooring was extended from adjoining rooms into the bathrooms, creating a sense of cohesion.

The result is a seamless integration of modern minimalism and traditional refinement.

The Shower Areas

Each shower is resolved as its own spatial moment, defined by a clear and consistent material language rather than a single overarching treatment. In the second bathroom, small-format square tiles in layered blue tones wrap the enclosure entirely, creating a continuous surface where variation in glaze, soft shifts from pale aqua to deeper blue, becoming the primary source of depth.

In contrast, the main bathroom shower is conceived as part of a broader, more open composition. Here, veined marble stone in soft pink and pistachio green tones forms the backdrop, its fluid pattern introducing a sense of movement that differs from the ordered rhythm of tile.

This is grounded by green square mosaics underfoot, set as a precise inlay that anchors the space within the larger room. Reeded glass shower doors and warm metal fittings, create the transition between wet and dry areas, feeling measured and deliberate, maintaining continuity while allowing each material to hold its own presence.

Continuity In The Home’s Smaller Rooms

In the home’s smaller spaces, like the cloakrooms, the design shifts into a more intimate register, where material and pattern warmly embrace the visitor.

Deep green botanical wallpaper introduces a sense of enclosure and mood, bringing a bolder layer that still sits comfortably within the project’s broader architectural language. The transition feels seamless, an extension rather than a departure, carrying through the same disciplined approach to tone, composition and detailing.

Delicately detailed marble fascias anchor the scheme above warm, mid-century timber cabinetry, balancing weight with familiarity. The contrast between the marble and intricate woodwork create a sense of unity, while brass-toned fittings and low, considered lighting allow the space to feel both grounded and atmospheric. The bespoke vanity in the cloak room once again referencing mid-century elegance.

A Collaboration With Intent

Honoured to be chosen as integral collaborators by the client, Vaniti House and Moment Architecture & Interiors, defined a cohesive spatial language where the bathrooms were not treated as standalone rooms, but as carefully composed extensions of the wider home, balanced in proportion, calm in atmosphere, and refined in detail.

This careful curation, including Victorian Bathrooms’ fine bathroomware, supports the broader design intent, ensuring every element contributes to the overall sense of quality and timeless elegance.
