La Residence, Franschhoek

The worlds best hotel ~ Seriously

Frequented by actors and rock stars La Residence is a truly luxurious destination where virtually anyone can unwind.

Amongst a slew of gobal awards, including world’s best hotel, La Residence has been voted into the Condé Nast ‘Gold List’ for 2018.

Set on a 30 acre estate amongst the vineyards on the slopes of Franschhoek’s mountains, this magnificent boutique hotel forms part of Liz Biden’s Royal Portfolio.

Each suite is themed and decorated with a bright fusion of asian, baroque and Provençal styles, lending an oasis-like air to this spectacular escape.

The opulence extends to every bathroom found in the hotels eleven suites. They are spacious and filled with antique dressers, Indian chandeliers, silk curtains, colourful chaise and spectacular armoires.

Victorian Bathrooms is proud to be included in this award winning venture. Our contribution is to be found in the expansive bathrooms that open onto a vista of mountain and vineyard while allowing Franschhoek’s beauty to spill in.

Exclusive accessories

Our bathroomware completes each glamorous boudoir. St.James mixers are featured throughout and include the elegant St.James bath mixers, elevated alongside each freestanding bath on stand pipes. The baths are accessorised with chrome bath racks, selected from our extensive range.

Showers are fitted with the St. James thermostatic mixer, ensuring ultimate comfort with controlled temperature and flow. Chrome soap baskets, extendable mirrors and freestanding towel rails underline the extent of the luxury and detail considered in each suite.

The Designer’s Approach - Setting the Tone

At the heart of the design approach was the use of rich, patterned ceramics for the vanities; vibrant surfaces that immediately draw the eye and set the tone for each bathroom. These bold vanities act as a contemporary counterpoint to more traditional fixtures like basins and sanitary ware.

To soften the visual transitions between old and new, warm wooden flooring was extended from adjoining rooms into the bathrooms, creating a sense of cohesion.

The result is a seamless integration of modern minimalism and traditional refinement.

Form Meets Function

For Natalie and her team, achieving the right balance between functionality and visual appeal was both the greatest challenge and the most rewarding. “One has to constantly prioritise the two until they work together,” Natalie explained. Counter-mounted vanities not only enhanced the aesthetic but offered a solution for efficient storage.

In the end, it’s the relationships between elements that bring the design to life: the warmth of wood against crisp porcelain, the texture of ceramic against smooth stone, the charm of a freestanding bath set against minimalist lines. The bathrooms are more than functional spaces, they are nuanced environments where every choice tells a story.
