Onderdorp Hotel ~ Bo-Kaap

The Onderdorp Hotel is nothing short of a wonderland, a place that beckons to the inner child who strives to explore every nook and cranny of this eclectic world.

This masterfully designed extension of the famous Dorp Hotel in Cape Town was born from the mind of Gail Behr, who left her mark etched into the cliffs of Signal Hill forever.

Nestled below the Dorp Hotel, Onderdorp first opened its doors on the 1st of November 2022. A self-catering sanctuary, each of the fifteen rooms has an adjacent kitchenette, whilst the larger rooms have an entirely separate, fully equipped kitchen. These suites cater to all, whether an adventuring tourist or a travelling businessperson.

Dusky pink walls, signature to almost every room,

beds so tall you feel like a child as you jump into the luxurious layers of sheets and duvets, soft green bed gowns hanging beside the bathroom entrance, while silent ceiling fans provide a welcome breeze in the summer… Comfort is everything at Onderdorp.

Spaces dedicated solely to relaxation are strategically scattered around the venue. Dip your toes in one of the three plunge pools, sit on a lounger beneath a snowy white umbrella… the perfect spot for that afternoon G&T.

Visit The Dorp Hotel:

Wander down the narrow alleyway to the patisserie and be treated to a warm cup of coffee and a flakey croissant, step inside the Wes Anderson inspired elevator and find yourself lifted to the studio where an antique workbench sits in the corner, surrounded by swirling patterns and pinboards detailing Gail’s next inspired piece. Clothing fills the rails while the large, open windows display the city and her mountain in all their breathtaking beauty.

The Palm House is the beating heart of The Onderdorp Hotel.

It’s made up of a large, open-plan kitchen, a comfy corner and, of course, an espresso machine set atop the counter. Literature and fine photography fill the shelves of a grand room hosting tables and chairs fit for a banquet. Crystal glasses balance on silver trays, reflecting the ornate gold frames lining the walls.

In true Gail fashion, the bathrooms hold an assortment of products and finishes curated from various suppliers around South Africa. Her signature pink paints the space, white ceramics and chrome tap-ware create a sensory contrast, while fluffy white towels and clever brass touches complete the experience.

The Palm House bathroom is a regal space with an earthy green palette. Our Burlington High-level Water Closet stands proudly beside a Burlington 560mm Victorian Basin on a chrome stand. The dark timber-framed mirror and floors allow one to feel as though one was in Buckingham Palace itself.

Victorian Bathrooms is honoured to be associated with The Onderdorp Hotel. We are proud that Gail Behr selected our ware for her project and that our vision resonated with hers. The Victorian Bathrooms’ modern classic style seamlessly blends the eclectic with the traditional elements of the past in a setting that celebrates both styles.
