At the foot of the scenic Oloololo escarpment, in Kenya’s iconic Masai Mara National Reserve, lies &Beyond’s Bateleur Camp. Comprised of two intimate camps, made up of 18 intimate suites and two family tents, each reflecting the ambiance and glamour of Kenyan safaris of the ‘20s and ‘30s.
The camps offer a refreshing lap pool ensuring cool comfort in between captivating game drives, including a private butler and housekeeper whose sole purpose is to ensure their guests receive total comfort and relaxation.
The reserve boasts a year-round concentration of wildlife, including the famous Great Wildebeest Migration. Hop into a hot-air balloon and gasp at the magnificent sights as you float above the boundless plains of the Masai Mara or for a more down to earth experience there are traditional game drives.
This immaculate safari camp was re-imagined and designed by Fox Browne Creative together with Julia Williams of Imprint Architecture. The brief was to hero the spirit of the existing camp and not sacrifice any of its original soul or antique and vintage pieces.
The classic East African safari drove the inspiration behind the camps renovations. Staying true to the traditional look, Fox Browne Creative utilised intriguing antiques, hand-crafted artefacts and keepsakes of bygone times mingled with cushy sofas and polished leather chairs.
Classic brass compasses, leather trunks and framed maps bring a poignant reminder of the old-world traveller, while bookshelves of bound tomes entertain and inform, all adding to the vintage safari elegance. Instead of pushing the proverbial design envelope, Fox Browne Creative retained the classic safari experience whilst sprinkling subtle modern surprises here and there.
Victorian Bathrooms is extremely proud to have been included in this remarkable project. The interiors of the bathrooms include stone flooring, large glass windows with Britannia tapware in an aged brass finish and our Classique bath in copper skirts.
Each ensuite room comprises of both indoor and outdoor showers, while the baths have an unobstructed sky view. Candle light is scattered around the bathroom, creating a fairy-tale like ambiance where long hot baths are mandatory after a day of exploration and pampering.
