It all started with a couple, residing in New Zealand, who embarked on a vacation to Indonesia before the era of Covid. Stranded in Central Java when the pandemic hit and borders shut down, they discovered the region's rich heritage in copper craftsmanship. Central Java, renowned for its copper mines, harbours a tradition of crafting exquisite copper products. These works of art are meticulously shaped from pure copper by skilled artisans, often part of familial lineages that have refined their craft across generations.
The husband hailed from New Zealand, while the wife had roots in South Africa. Their journey led them to Cape Town, seeking to visit her family. Yet, the emergence of the Omicron variant thwarted their plans to return home to New Zealand once again. However, the allure of South Africa's charm was strong, and it persuaded them to lay down roots and begin anew in the country.
Having personally witnessed the intricate process of handcrafting copper goods in Java, they decided to introduce some of these cherished pieces to South Africa. Every copper creation that is offered is meticulously handcrafted, ensuring its uniqueness. Slight irregularities, colour variations, or what might be perceived as 'imperfections' are in fact the distinctive traits that define each piece. Due to the manual crafting process, approximate dimensions are provided as sizes can naturally vary.
